I started this blog for a number of very practical and very personal reasons. I’m a partner in Arrive Alive (http://www.arrivealive.biz/), the North American distributor of the world’s only ISO Certified Disposable Alcohol Breathtester. Through my work with Arrive Alive I’ve done a considerable amount of research and news-gathering and felt there was a need for a single location where visitors could turn to for information on Alcohol and Anti-DUI Strategies. I also felt such a site shouldn’t be fueled by anti-alcohol rhetoric nor should it be a formal part of a commercial website. With that, this site was born.
My position is decidedly anti-driving, not anti-drinking. When you go out, have a safe-ride-home strategy and have that extra drink without worrying about running into a checkstop on the way home.
Anyone reading this who knew me “back in the day” will likely chuckle at the irony that I’m hosting this blog. Believe me my ears are burning: I’ve more than my share of party stories. A coin flip usually decided who would do the driving. I’d like to think I’ve evolved since then.
I welcome your constructive comments, submissions. I’d like this blog to a comprehensive resource where people can quickly be brought up to speed on the following areas:
Alcohol Liability — in today’s litigation-happy world this is a big deal.
Anti DUI Strategies — whether it be a law enforcement strategy, a school-based or community-based program I’d love to hear about it.
Statistics – I can hear the rallying cry “lies, damn lies and statistics”. However, if you have some pertinent statistics on DUI Rates and fatalities I’d like to hear them. After all, nearly 17,000 people died in 2005 from drinking-and-driving. I find it alarming to learn how many kids under 14 were killed.
Responsible Promotions – do you know of a company / organization that has done a particularly good responsible drinking campaign. I’d like to feature them.
These are just ideas that have come to me today. If you have ideas, let’s here them.

Alcohol, DUI and Liability 
Was having a conversation with a friend and this person has a son (18) who owns a vehicle but does not have, nor has ever had, a driver’s license. Would you know what kind of penalty the son and/or father who be subject to if the son was charged with a DUI?

Good point. The one aspect of this blog that I’m particularly challenged with is finding the time to comment. Looking at my stats — I’ve commented on less than 10 percent of the stories. Thanks for the nudge.
No, problem. It just seemed like commentary is where you can make a difference. People know that these things happen, but maybe your words will help people realize why they should be responsible drinkers.
Maybe put all stories from one day in a single post and comment a sentence or three on each of them, or comment on the one most important story and merely provide the links to the others.
Hey, I’m not trying to tell you how to run your site. Like I said, I think your commentary would be the difference, as opposed to merely “reporting the news.”
